Space Locations
Colony Description: Think about how Earth is, where it’s a sphere and we’re held onto the outside of that sphere by gravity. Instead of being on the outside, a colony is on the inside of the sphere, and the false sky that comforts the inhabitants actually takes up some space of that inside sphere. No matter where you are on the living area of a colony, you can always see all of the living area of the colony. Because of the way it’s built and the way the artificial gravity works, if you’re all the way on the edge of one side, you can look up and see the opposite edge.
Sizes
Small – Under 50,000 square miles
Small-Medium – Between 50,000 and 150,000 square miles
Medium – Between 150,000 and 250,000 square miles
Large – More than 250,000 square miles
Colony L3
Location: On Orbit with Earth, 90 Degrees ahead
Size: Medium
Affiliation: Earth Sphere Unified Government
Description: The oldest of all the colonies, L3 was the first colony to ever be constructed, and thus is the least technologically advanced of the colonies. It is basically just a life-support colony, housing people and the various necessities for a normal life. ESS and Pax Pacis both have small offices here, but nothing of interest ever really goes on. Some warehouses line the outer parts of the living area, as well as the largest lake on any of the colonies, which is one of the finer points of interest in this seldom visited colony.
Colony L5
Location: On Orbit with Mars, 45 Degrees behind
Size: Small-Medium
Affiliation: Earth Sphere Unified Government
Description: A heavy-trafficked trade colony, L5 is usually the closest to Earth, and therefore a common port for all supply and transportation routes. Many refineries and factories line the living area, as well as a lot of shopping, and most of the people that live there are workers in the stores, factories, refineries, etc. The rest of the people on the colony are usually tourists and shoppers. Thieves make a living off these naive and usually wealthy people, probably because ESS has such little coverage of the area on L5. ESS has two small facilities and Pax Pacis only one.
Colony L7
Location: On Orbit with Earth, 90 Degrees behind
Size: Large
Affiliation: Earth Sphere Unified Government
Description: The largest of the Colonies by far, Colony L7 is a thriving metropolis throughout its entire living area. It houses the second largest ESS Facility, and the largest Pax Pacis. Atlantis Corporation has two factories, and most of Zephyr Research’s labs are located there. It is a predominantly peaceful colony, but that doesn’t mean shady happenings don’t go down in the shadows. Being such a large colony, even ESS and Pax Pacis can’t be everywhere at once. Also houses the ESUG Colony Embassy, which governs the colonies and their relationship with Earth’s countries.
Colony L9
Location: On Orbit with Jupiter, 135 Degrees behind
Size: Small-Medium
Affiliation: Earth Sphere Unified Government
Description: Commonly used a jump-off point from L7, Colony L9 is the furthest ESUG affiliated colony from Earth. Sometimes said to be the most criminally active ESUG colony, even though ESS and Pax Pacis both have a decent-sized facility located there. Mostly used for storage of equipment and other various things to save room on Earth, L9 doesn’t have much of a community.
Colony X-0
Location: Static between Uranus and Neptune Orbits
Size: Small
Affiliation: Independent
Description: The first colony ever to be built by an independent contractor, X-0 is probably the smallest of colonies. It is a lackluster, uneventful place where even thieves and pirates don’t bother pilfering. Most people living on this colony are poor and can’t afford to live in a better place, their families emigrating there and most were actually born and raised there. The owner of the colony chose to remain nameless, but seems to care about the colony, policing it with a hired police force, which in such a small colony keeps the peace well enough.
Colony X-1
Location: Static between Uranus and Neptune Orbits
Size: Small-Medium
Affiliation: Independent
Description: This colony is owned by the same person who owns Colony X-0. It is a slightly more upscale colony that has a small resort and amusement park. Again, the owner has a private police force that prevents most of the crime on the colony, and for the most part this is a peaceful colony that keeps mostly to itself.
Colony N21
Location: Static between Uranus and Neptune Orbits
Size: Small-Medium
Affiliation: Independent
Description: The most mysterious of the colonies, N21 is closed off to the general public and governmental influences. Though it is known that people have migrated there, the owner, Caeric McGawen, has never been seen and hasn’t let anyone except for deliveries from Earth into the colony, and even then he only allows them to dock and drop off their cargo. No one, except for those living in the colony now, has ever seen the inside of the colony, only because the only people ever to step foot into the colony have been personally invited there by Caeric himself. The only thing known about Caeric is that he is extremely wealthy and just as eccentric.
Colony X-10
Location: Unknown
Original Location: Static between Neptune and Pluto Orbits
Size: Medium
Affiliation: Vis Vires
Description: The largest of the independent colonies, X-10 has a prolific history as one of the seediest of backwater colonies. Since there is no ESS presence, as well as no other police force, and that there is so much area to cover, criminals run free and do basically whatever they please. Vern Brinerwitz, a former Colonistic Mafia lackey, inherited the colony after his father died of natural causes. Vern used the colony to further increase his wealth by allowing illegal activity and even taxing criminals for such dealings. This caused the colony to become somewhat of a slum, where normal people had to work extra hard just to stay alive, and where The Unknown, a mafia in its own respects, could flourish by causing fear in the hearts of those hard working people. X-10 was taken over by Vis Vires and outfitted with prototype thrusters for deep space travel, and is now somewhere out of the solar system.
Solaris One
Location: On Orbit with Mercury, 180 Degrees behind/ahead
Size: Small
Affiliation: Earth Sphere Unified Government
Description: To further increase the usability of colonies, ESUG started research and development on a self-sustaining colony close to the sun, using the high-intensity of solar radiation as a form of a fuel. Not only does Solaris One run off the rays of the sun, but it also has the most extensive amount of flora in any of the previous colonies, allowing it to actually produce enough oxygen to sustain a fair amount of personnel and civilian population. What makes the cooling of the colony so near to the sun possible is the large prototype NPL cooling the hull and engines at all times.
Zero Heaven
Location: Static between Neptune and Pluto Orbits
Size: Small
Affiliation: Independent
Description: Owned by Redrico Alzabrrio, Zero Heaven was built to be THE training/entertainment hub of the entire Earth Sphere area. Most of its city-sized area is filled with arcades, shops, golf courses, resorts, and many other high entertainment areas, Zero Heaven has packed more entertainment into this small space than most colonies. In turn, Zero Heaven also has the most advanced training technology ever built, allowing for soldiers and MS pilots to train their skills. Also includes an enormous ball room, arena, and one of the largest docking bays ever constructed.
